Lithium polymer battery and ordinary lithium-ion battery analysis and comparison

 1, ordinary lithium ion battery

Lithium-ion batteries are commonly referred to as "lithium batteries," and they are the best battery systems currently available. Lithium-ion battery cathode is a carbon material, such as graphite. The positive electrode is a lithium-containing transition metal oxide such as LiMn2O4.

(1) The advantages of lithium-ion battery: 

1 The working voltage is high, and the working voltage of Li-ion battery is 3.6V, which is three times that of Ni-Cd and Ni-MH battery.

2 is higher than energy. The specific energy of lithium-ion batteries has reached 140Wh/kg, which is 3 times that of nickel-cadmium batteries and 1.5 times that of nickel-hydrogen batteries.

3 long cycle life. At present, the cycle life of lithium-ion batteries has reached more than 1000 times, and can reach tens of thousands of times at low depth of discharge, which exceeds several other secondary batteries.

4 Small self-discharge. The self-discharge rate of lithium-ion batteries is only 6-8%, which is far lower than that of nickel-cadmium batteries (25 to 30%) and nickel-metal hydride batteries (30 to 40%). 

5 no memory effect. It can be recharged on demand without reducing battery performance.

6 No pollution to the environment. Lithium-ion batteries do not contain harmful substances and are truly "green batteries."

2, lithium polymer battery

Lithium polymer batteries are newer generation batteries that entered the market in volume in 1999. Lithium polymer batteries are basically the same as lithium-ion batteries except that the electrolyte is a solid polymer rather than a liquid electrolyte.

The polymer electrolyte material is an ordinary thin film composed of a solution in which an oxide of a host polymer such as polyethylene is used as a non-moving solvent. Lithium polymer battery has the advantage of being able to be made into any shape and light, because it does not contain heavy metals and has a plastic shell that keeps the electrolyte from leaking. Their performance is better, and the ideal lithium polymer battery has a capacity of several thousand mA/h and is safer. Semi-automated aluminum film molding machine solid electrolyte like a sealing gel, will not easily disintegrate during charging.

3. Comparison of two types of batteries

Lithium polymer batteries and lithium-ion battery technology can replace Ni-Gd batteries. But the price is too high and the market has not fully accepted it, especially lithium polymer technology. The Darnell Group's previous lithium-ion battery cost for notebook computers was $41.42, and the cost of a polymer battery for laptops was $60.80.

Lithium-ion polymer batteries have a larger capacity than lithium batteries in the same volume and do not have a memory effect at all (lithium-ion batteries still have a memory effect, but they are relatively small). Lithium polymer battery is actually a gel-like material, easy to make a variety of shapes. And does not contain harmful heavy metal elements, is the "green battery."
